The Household of God
Ray Wooten
One of the most important facts about God is that God is a Family. He is not a trinity of persons nor is God limited to just one body. The bible reveals that there is one individual who is the Father of the Family and He has many children. Jesus is the firstborn of the Family, but He is the first of many children. Rom 8:29, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (All bible references are KJV unless otherwise noted).
The apostle Paul understood that this was not about Christ’s physical birth, but His spiritual birth at His resurrection. Col 1:18, “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead;----” Consequently it is not referring to our physical birth, but to our spiritual birth at the resurrection which is the final step in the process of God “creating man after His Likeness”, Gen 1:26.
Creation Reveals God’s Nature
All of creation demonstrates this wonderful truth. Rom 1:20, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;” Did you notice that? All of creation reproduces after its own kind symbolizing that God is creating children after His kind. This is what is meant when the scripture says, “we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is.” 1John 3:1.
It is also the concept the author of Hebrews had about the statement David made in Ps 8:4-5, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower (for a little while) than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor.”
Heb 2:6-9, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honor, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”
Notice the words of Jesus to the disciples as He was preparing them for His departure shortly before His crucifixion. John 14:2, “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
